Verify 11084NAT or CPCCDE3014 asbestos awareness certificates via AI document analysis. Required under WHS legislation for workers in at-risk environments. Results in under 24 hours.
Overview
Asbestos awareness training is required under WHS regulations for workers who may disturb asbestos or asbestos-containing materials (ACM) in the course of their work. Two unit codes are in use: 11084NAT – Course in Asbestos Awareness (an older, still-valid qualification) and CPCCDE3014 – Remove Non-Friable Asbestos (the current preferred unit under the Construction Training Package). Workers who may encounter asbestos in pre-1990 buildings, during demolition, or during maintenance and renovation work must hold current asbestos awareness training.
Asbestos remains in millions of Australian buildings constructed before 1990, when its use was banned. Construction, renovation, maintenance, and demolition workers are at highest risk of inadvertent asbestos exposure. WHS legislation places a duty on PCBUs (persons conducting a business or undertaking) to ensure workers who may encounter asbestos are adequately trained before commencing work. Verifying asbestos awareness certificates is part of meeting this duty of care.
Refchecks verifies asbestos awareness certificates via AI document analysis of the Statement of Attainment or course completion certificate uploaded by the candidate. Claude Vision extracts the unit code, date of issue, candidate name, and issuing RTO — identifying whether the certificate references the current CPCCDE3014 or the legacy 11084NAT code.
What's Included
Workers involved in the demolition, refurbishment, or maintenance of pre-1990 buildings must hold asbestos awareness training before commencing work. Principal contractors must verify this before granting site access.
Facilities managers and maintenance contractors working in older commercial or public buildings must hold asbestos awareness training. This is a WHS compliance requirement where ACM may be present.
Some mine sites — particularly older processing facilities — may contain legacy asbestos materials. Workers involved in maintenance or decommissioning of such facilities require asbestos awareness training.
Tradespeople working in social housing and older residential properties must hold asbestos awareness training. Property managers have an obligation to ensure contractors are trained before engaging them for maintenance work.
Process
The candidate uploads their asbestos awareness Statement of Attainment or course completion certificate through the Refchecks portal.
Claude Vision reads the document and extracts the unit code (CPCCDE3014 or 11084NAT), date of issue, candidate name, and issuing RTO.
The system identifies whether the certificate uses the current CPCCDE3014 code or the legacy 11084NAT code. Both are accepted — legacy certificates are noted so the employer can decide whether to require an updated qualification.
A structured result is returned showing the unit code, date of issue, RTO details, and verification status — ready for the employer's asbestos management records.
