Verify HLTAID011 (Provide First Aid) and HLTAID009 (CPR) certificates in under 24 hours. Dual-check system catches lapsed CPR even when First Aid is still valid.
Overview
First aid and CPR certificates are required for workers across mining, construction, childcare, healthcare, and many other industries. In Australia, the current unit codes are HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid (valid 3 years) and HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (valid 1 year, annual renewal required). These replaced the old HLTAID003 and HLTAID001 codes in 2021.
A common compliance gap is a worker whose HLTAID011 is still valid but whose HLTAID009 has lapsed — since CPR requires annual renewal, it expires sooner than the broader first aid certificate. Without a dual-check system, this gap is easy to miss during manual screening. Refchecks specifically checks both certificates independently, flagging any lapsed component even when the other remains current.
Our verification uses Claude Vision document analysis on the certificates uploaded by the candidate. The system extracts unit codes, issuing RTO name, and date of issue, then applies the applicable validity period to determine current status. No manual data entry is required from the candidate beyond uploading their documents.
What's Included
First aid certificates are mandatory for site workers under WHS regulations. Many sites require at least one trained first aider per crew at all times.
ACECQA and state licensing bodies require all early childhood educators to hold current first aid and CPR certificates, with HLTAID009 renewed annually.
Clinical and support staff across hospitals, nursing homes, and community care organisations require verified first aid certificates for employment compliance.
Security guards, crowd controllers, and emergency services personnel require current first aid and CPR certificates as a licensing condition in all states.
Process
The candidate uploads images or PDFs of both their HLTAID011 (Provide First Aid) and HLTAID009 (CPR) certificates through the secure Refchecks portal.
Our AI reads each certificate and extracts the unit code(s), RTO name, candidate name, and date of completion. Both certificates are processed independently.
HLTAID011 validity (3 years) and HLTAID009 validity (1 year) are calculated separately. A result of VALID requires both to be current — a lapsed CPR certificate flags the entire check.
A structured result is delivered to the employer showing each certificate's status, expiry date, and issuing RTO — ready for compliance records.
