Overview

Why Working with Vulnerable People ACT?

The Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Registration is the ACT's screening clearance for anyone working or volunteering with children and other vulnerable people. Administered by Access Canberra, it involves a national criminal history assessment and a review of other relevant records to determine suitability for vulnerable-person-related roles.

Like Tasmania, the ACT's WWVP scheme covers both children and other vulnerable people — making it broader than a standard Working with Children Check. ACT organisations in education, childcare, healthcare, sport, and community services must ensure all staff and volunteers hold a current registration before commencing duties.

The registration is free for volunteers and costs $78 for paid workers, with a 3-year validity period and continuous monitoring. Access Canberra can review and revoke registrations at any time during the validity period. Applications are submitted online through the Access Canberra portal.
