The Ochre Card is the Northern Territory's Working with Children Check — a mandatory screening clearance for anyone working or volunteering with children in the NT. Administered by Safe NT within the Department of Territory Families, it involves a national criminal history check and an assessment of relevant government records.
Unlike most other states, the Ochre Card is free for all applicants — both paid workers and volunteers — making the NT one of the most accessible jurisdictions for child-related employment screening. NT organisations in education, healthcare, childcare, and community services are required to ensure all staff hold a current Ochre Card before commencing duties with children.
The Ochre Card is valid for 2 years — a shorter renewal cycle than most other states — and is subject to ongoing monitoring. Safe NT can review or cancel an Ochre Card at any time during the validity period if new relevant information comes to light. Applications are submitted online through the Safe NT portal.
What's Included
